Footpath Guide No 2--- Coombeswood with Links to the Leasowes, Lapal Canal and Abbey Lands

Maybe you are visiting Hawne Basin, on the Dudley No2 Canal by boat, perhaps walking the Towpath, or from the North following the Monarchs Way Footpath, or just rambling through the pleasant slopes of the Coombeswood Green Wedge........

And as you approach the present Terminus of the Canal, marked by the tall chimney stacks of the renowned Haywood Forge; surprisingly there now appears to the South, a distant panoramic vista of rolling open Countryside gently folding away to the summits of the Wychbury and Clent Hills.

From Coombeswood a "Green Gateway" - provides a footpath link to the South, via the line of the abandoned Lapal Canal through the "Leasowes Historic Landscape and Nature Reserve" via the lands of HalesOwen Abbey and the site of the Lapal Tunnel.

Our Footpath Guides contain text on points of interest, and are illustrated with colour photographs, to help you discover the Historic Landscapes that flank the Canal Line on its way through Halesowen.  There are ambitious plans afoot to restore the abandoned 5 miles of waterway, which hopefully one day will make a through connection to the Worcester and Birmingham Canal at Selly Oak.  Interestingly, Guide Map No 1 illustrates the first stage of restoration with a possible alternative route to the original line, by driving a New Tunnel under Mucklow Hill!
